I love roaming about in the woods, over boardwalks through marshes, by reed-lined rivers--anywhere I can find branches, a sky unblemished by buildings, and ants. Yes, ants.
I'm so content anywhere outside. And being there creates a feeling of emotional and physical space for me where I can go outside of thought. It's meditative I suppose.
I can forget my age, my job, my obligations and melt into a universal place of being where I am simply an observer.

I must say that you can certainly see your passion for the outdoors in your photography - your nature photos are wonderful! Really, you see things I would not pick up on and capture the beauty of the outdoors through the lens in a way that many cannot. I feel fortunate to be able to see it through your eyes

I hate ants too. Mostly fire ants. Death to them all.

It's a great feeling to get out into the trees. Observing nature in all its varied glory is as good escape from the cares of daily life as any, if not better! Indifferent as nature is, I believe the trees, streams and mountains secretly appreciate visitors.
Beautifully said and my sentiments exactly, however, I will pose a question to all.... you love nature? What are you doing to protect it?
I don't mean this as a flippant comment. Mother Nature is under assault and if you all truly believe what you say, you need to get in the fight and stay in it. The money grubbers are, and they're relentless.
A yearly contribution to your favorite organization isn't enough. When is the last time you went to a council meeting to protest something? The last time you stood in front of a bulldozer? Wrote a letter to the editor? DO IT!

Mr. Charleston, I agree 100%. We shouldn't just talk about its beauty. That's why I have a degree in Environmental Science, do all that I can to talk with others about the importance of conservation, have served for 4 years on the board of our local Audubon Society to preserve and protect our local environment, chair a scholarship committee to provide scholarships to students studying environmental science,
and am involved in many other advocacy activities. I also used to work as a program director at a nature center educating kids about our local habitats.
