Please don't let this reflect my mothering skills.

Can I just say that I'm a fabulous mother? It was freeeeezing here this morning, but I knew D-Man could take it for a little while at the bus stop.

With his new phone that's attached to his thumbs, he texted me at 7:54 a.m. to say, "I love you. Have a good day."

How sweet.

My response from work: "Thank you; you too. You better not have that phone at school."

"Don't worry, I don't." (Um, will someone explain the mechanics of this?)

Shortly after that I received a call from Husb. "Can you look online at the Manatee County school calendar? The neighbor says there's no school?"

Apparently, that neighbor would be absolutely right. So glad we sent him off to the bus stop.

I'll chalk it up to post-holiday depression. The only thing I can think right now is "For the love of Pete, it will be a whole year before people are chilled out, jovial and giving..all at the same time. Knowing this is a suckfest."

Ah, yes, the post-Christmas blahs--I know them well. Bonus day for your son, though. I sure wish I'd woken up this morning to find out that my school wasn't in session!
The only time I stand a chance against January depression is planning something fairly intense for say, the February-March time frame and anticipate that with the same fervor as I did the holidays--really, that's all I've got, other than a lot of slogging and trudging and waiting to see the sun!

Hang in there! Who knows? Maybe the next "bonus day off" will be yours!

Once I went out of town shopping for the day not realizing the kids had a half day. Big oops!

It happens to the best of us!

So what did your kid wind up doing with the day, then?

Oh, I hope you don't think I'm terrible to be laughing at this. I would so do this very thing!
Hey, no harm, no foul.

Oh, God....this is soooo something I've done! Kids come inside 30 minutes later.....saying "WTH???"...

If you're BAD, then I'm BAD.

We're not BAD...We're busy!

Hey hey, that's my kind of mother child combo: a school-positive family is a literate family, hooray! It would be funny if if were the other way around too and D-man spent his first day of school birdwatching from a canoe (probably just as educational.)

It wasn't THAT cold was it? All that texting should have kept him warm.

LOL well all's well that ends well. I bet even "Mother of the Year" winners would do this stuff occasionally. ;o)

He's forgiven me, and in fact, was quite amused at the whole situation. And completely grateful for the extra day. Our neighbor stays at home & watches a few kids. She kept her eye on him.
